What’s the difference between NMDCAT and MDCAT? NMDCAT (National MDCAT) and MDCAT (Medical and Dental College Admission Test) refer to the same medical entry exam in Pakistan, but the naming has evolved over time.

NMDCAT vs MDCAT:

  1. Name Change – Previously called MDCAT, it is now officially termed NMDCAT (National MDCAT) under the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) to standardize the test nationwide.

  2. Conducting Authority – Earlier, provincial boards conducted their own MDCATs, but since 2020, the PMC administers a unified NMDCAT for all medical and dental colleges in Pakistan.

  3. Syllabus & Format – The NMDCAT follows a standardized PMC syllabus, whereas older MDCAT versions varied slightly across provinces.

Conclusion:

  • NMDCAT = Current, national-level exam (PMC-administered).

  • MDCAT = Older term (still used informally, but now replaced by  National MDCAT).
